ILOILO – Oil spill-affected residents of Caluya, Antique will be given emergency employment.
The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Region 6 allocated P20 million for the Livelihood Assistance to Our Disadvantaged / Displaced Workers (TUPAD) program.
Currently, DOLE’s evaluation and profiling of the 1,605 beneficiaries is ongoing.
This set of beneficiaries will be the second batch of informal workers hired for 15 days to assist the local government unit in the clean and green program and the coastal clean-up of affected areas.
Earlier, DOLE-6 Antique Field Office released P2,261,666 for the wages of 461 beneficiaries from Sitio Toong, Barangay Sigayan; Sitio Liwagao, Barangay Sibolo; and Sitio Sabang, Barangay Tinogboc.
Each beneficiary received P4,500 for the community service rendered.
DOLE-6 director Atty. Sixto T. Rodriguez Jr. leads the monitoring of the program’s implementation.
“We are trying to implement the program as soon as possible. Alam natin na kailangan ng mga tao yan at naintindihan natin ang kanilang kalagayan,” said Rodriguez.
Caluya mayor Rigil Kent G. Lim welcomed the support provided to displaced workers whose livelihoods were affected by the oil spill from the sunken MT Princess Empress on February 28. (With a report from DOLE Region 6)/PN
