MANILA – Bryan Bagunas waxed hot on offense as Oita Miyoshi Weisse Adler ended the 2021-22 V.League Division 1 men’s tournament with a 20-25, 25-19, 30-32, 25-21, 15-13 triumph over VC Nagano on Sunday at the Shiojiri City Gymnasium.
The former National University Bulldogs star went berserk with 42 points, on 36 attacks, three blocks, and three service aces, as the Weisse Adler snapped its 11-game losing skid.
It was a huge confident boost for the 6-foot-5 Bagunas and Weisse Adler as they compete in the V.League Division 1/Division 2 qualification match in April.
Kota Yamada, Kyogo Kawaguchi and Shota Fujiwara also aided Bagunas in scoring. They combined for 41 points as the Weisse Adler ended the season with 5-31 record.
Rivan Nurmulki paced VC Nagano with 24 points. Kota Ikeda chipped in 19 points, while Ryoma Yanuki contributed six blocks to go with five attacks for 11 points.
In women’s action, Jaja Santiago and Saitama Ageo Medics returned to their winning ways after a 25-12, 25-17, 28-26 sweep of Okayama Seagulls at Sanyo Fureai Park Gymnasium.
Santiago maintained her standings as the top shot blocker in the league after tallying three swats to go with her five attacks for eight points total for the Ageo Medics.
The former National University Lady Bulldogs middle blocker now leads the entire V. League women’s division in both the blocking rate (0.83) and most blocks (96).
Yuka Sato spearheaded the offense with 18 points, Brazilian reinforcement Lorenne Teixeira added 17 markers, on12 spikes, three aces, and two blocks as the Ageo Medics improved to 17-13 for sixth place.
Amika Saiki finished with 15 markers to lead the offense of the Seagulls, which dropped to eighth place in the standings with 12-19 win-loss record./PN
