On ‘Fiesta Minatay’ don’t forget to offer prayers

ILOILO – Don’t forget to offer prayers for the dearly departed, according to the Archdiocese of Jaro, while it anticipates an influx of people in public and private cemeteries beginning today.

Although the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic drags on, there are still ways to remember loved ones on “Fiesta Minatay”.

Importante makasimba kita,” said Father Angelo Colada, director of the Archdiocese of Jaro’s Commission on Social Communications.

Iloilo’s being under general community quarantine allows religious gatherings at 50 percent of the venue capacity.

But families can also offer prayers in their respective homes or attend Mass online, according to Colada.

For devotees who plan to go to cemeteries, Colada advised the strict observance of minimum public health standards, especially the wearing of facemasks and face shields, and social distancing.

Wala pa ‘ni matapos ang COVID-19. Ang pagkadto sa patyo maka-cause gid sang ‘super spreader’ event. We encourage devotees nga amat-amat lang sila kadto,” said Colada.

All private and public cemeteries in Iloilo city and province will be closed from Oct. 29 to Nov. 2./PN
