IT IS INDEED exasperating when our supposedly leaders are the ones themselves breaking the law, particularly the medical protocols on COVID-19; a priest, the Regional Director of the Bureau of Fire Protection 6, and our very own congresswoman.
Perhaps Bureau of Fire Protection 6 director Gerry Candido, Iloilo City congresswoman Julienne Baronda and that unknown priest are totally ignorant of the fact that Iloilo City is under Modified Enhance Community Quarantine or MECQ and that mass gatherings of any kind are prohibited.
Perhaps these three are also ignorant that there’s Executive Order No. 50-A that prohibits the conduct of any form of mass gathering in the city until June 15.
Exhibiting symptoms of ignorance and stupidity should not be blamed on the persons inflicted, rather benevolence and pity, if that is the case.
But what happened in Alta Tierra on June 10 was a perfect combination of stupidity and temerity.
A blessing and inauguration of a new fire station complete with tents, tables and chairs set up for a catered buffet is not in any shape or form an essential government activity. What makes saying a few self-serving speeches and then socializing and eating the buffet spread essential?
What is essential is the fire station can start operation immediately without the need for this frivolous nonsense; we are, after all, in the midst of a pandemic.
Mayor Geronimo, if these three supposedly leaders flaunt MECQ guidelines, then how do you expect the natives of “I Am Iloilo City” to follow the MECQ guidelines and basic COVID-19 protocols?
And you’re still wondering why COVID-19 cases are going up? I would not be surprised if this MECQ extends up to the end of June.

And we segue to more random thoughts on the murder of Far Eastern University footballer Keith Absalon and his cousin Nolven by the New People’s Army (NPA).
The silence from the “wokes”, so-called human rights activists, Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP), League of Filipino Students and “artista ng bayan” on the brutal murder of Absalon and his cousin is deafening – a far cry from their shrill screaming every time a drug pusher is killed in a police operation.
“Landmines are murder,” according to Leni Robredo. So I suppose coconuts are murder if one gets hit on the head by one that fell from the coconut tree, or swimming pools are also murder if one happens to drown in one…
I actually find it rather cute that Leni Robredo blames the land mines for the murder of Keith Absalon and his cousin. How about blaming the NPA who planted and detonated the landmine so you’ll be at the very least credible.
The Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) and its armed group the NPA are not just some quaint group out on a romantic ideological struggle. They’re terrorists and extortionists whose only purpose is to overthrow the legitimate government of the Philippines by violent means and replace it with their own.
Make no mistake about it. The life that you know will completely change if the CPP/NPA takes over. Think North Korea. Probably worst.
The government should just criminalize communism again and its byproduct i.e. socialism. It is, after all, a failed and obsolete ideology and anybody who is a member, espouses, supports or even remotely connected to it should either surrender or be shot on sight.

Finally, wonders will never cease. Manny Pacquiao now fancies himself as an expert on foreign policy. I suppose he got that from all the pounding his head received in the boxing school of diplomacy and foreign relations.
I’m guessing that since Manny Pacquiao claimed that he wrote a letter to US President Joe Biden and he also said he wrote a letter to the Chinese ambassador, maybe, just maybe, he believes that this counts as his actual “diplomatic” and “foreign relations” experience.
Of course, playing around with the showgirls in Las Vegas and high-class escorts in the countries where he has his fights does not count.
By the way, 1Sambayan dismisses the “yellow” tag, saying they are a “broad coalition”. Ahay…St. Cory must be spinning in her grave. (brotherlouie16@gmail.com)/PN)
