BACOLOD City – There were no crimes or serious traffic problems during the observance of the All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day, authorities said.
Public and private cemeteries and other areas had been “generally peaceful,” according to Senior Inspector Armilyn Vargas, public information officer for the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO).
“Even at terminals, the ports and the airport, there were no crimes,” Vargas said.
The officer gave credit to “good preparation” and “proper deployment” of officers.
Public cooperation with the police, especially at cemeteries, helped in maintaining peace and order, she said.
Generally vehicular traffic was well-managed, even at the Burgos public cemetery where the crowd was huge on Nov. 1, said Superintendent Luisito Acebuche, officer-in-charge of the Bacolod Traffic Authority Office.
There was congestion at Rose Lawn, a private cemetery in Barangay Bata, but it was “minor,” Acebuche said.
Around 68,000 went to cemeteries across the city on Oct. 31 and about 78,000 on Nov. 1, according to Vargas.
More people were still visiting cemeteries as of this writing. Traffic rerouting on Burgos Street was extended until yesterday, said Acebuche.
Police’s full alert status that started on the weekend will be lifted today.
Executive Assistant Ernie Pineda, chief coordinator of Task Force All Saints’ Day, said he has not received any report of untoward incidents.
The task force was tasked to supervise public markets, cemeteries and the plaza during the long weekend./PN
