ILOILO City – The Archdiocese of Jaro is not tolerating any action or activity that negatively impactd the lives and livelihood of the Catholic faithful.

This was the reaction of Reverend Father Angelo Colada, director of the Archdiocese of Jaro’s Social Communication Office, on the social media viral video performance of former Drag Den Philippines contestant Pura Luka Vega wearing a Jesus Christ costume while jamming with the crowd to a punk rock version of the Catholic hymn “Ama Namin.”

“Tama kasubo, daw kasubo lang nga nagakahalanabo ini nga butang,” Colada told Panay News on Sunday afternoon, July 16.

He added that before doing something, one should reflect on whether the act has either a negative or moral effect or would hurt other individuals.

Colada was not surprised that the performance earned a backlash; the Catholic faithful saw it as an insult and a “mockery” to God, he said.

Devotees, he said, have an obligation to protect the faith.

“Ini nga bagay dapat maproteksyonan nga indi paghimuon nga karadlawan sang iban,” Colada added.

Here, the priest called on everyone to be responsible for their actions and for their freedom of expression.

“You have to be responsible sang sining freedom nga ginahatag sa aton, especially nga makaguba sang pagtuo kag baratyagon sang isig-katawo,” Colada said.

He also said everyone must be prudent and cautious in how they use religious objects and elements.

Colada hoped that the dismay and sadness felt by the Catholic faithful would be translated into strengthening one’s faith.

“Kabay nga ang aton pagkadismaya kag kasubo sa hitabo kag kabalaka sa pagdampig sang aton pagtuo, magdala pa gid sa aton sa pagdampig sang aton pagtuo sa nagakalain-lain nga mga kalainan nga nagakatabo sa aton palibot nga nagapaluya sang aton pagtuo sa Diyos,” he added./PN
