ILOILO City – Police station commanders and their men must clear one drug-affected barangay in their respective turfs each month.
The aim is to make the city “five percent drug-free,” said Superintendent Gilbert Gorero, spokesperson of the Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO).
There are six police stations here (districts of Jaro, Mandurriao, Molo, Arevalo, City Proper and La Paz).
“We know this is hard but we can do it with the help of barangay officials and concerned government agencies,” Gorero said.
Iloilo City has 180 barangays. According to the ICPO, between 40 to 40 villages are drug-affected.
Gorrero stressed the importance of Barangay Anti-Drug Abuse Councils.
He urged barangay leaders to cooperate with the police.
“We want a peaceful city,” said Gorero.
Meanwhile, the Iloilo Police Provincial Office has ordered 42 town police chiefs to clear two drug-affected barangays in their respective areas within three months or face sanctions./PN
