One hot Caffé Mocha

THE PHILIPPINE political scene desperately needs an infusion of one hot Caffè Mocha, preferably Grande, to make it interesting and “more fun.”

Congress, both the House of Representatives and the Senate, are already full of characters that should never be there in the first place, i.e. Aniceto Bertiz or “John” as he prefers to be called and Sarah Elago. Include the Senate’s own “Bambam” Aquino and Risa Hontiveros so one more won’t hurt; it will probably do more good.

Compared to the Senate, the House of Representatives – although it has its own share of singular characters  — still seems to be performing its task as legislature and not obstructionist as in the Senate wherein anything even remotely connected to President Rodrigo Duterte almost always gets a negative reaction followed by the ubiquitous Senate investigation.

Without much ado what Congress needs is Esther Margaux Justiniano Uson a.k.a. Mocha Uson or just plain Mocha, lately the Assistant Secretary of the Presidential Communications Operations Office or PCOO till she resigned on Oct. 3.

Of course, in dramatic fashion only Mocha can pull off, done with a lot of theatrics in the middle of a hearing in Senate for the budget of the PCOO.

Excerpts from the Oct. 8 issue of Panay News:

Mocha Uson will ‘run’ in 2019 polls, didn’t say for what position

Hoping to be a “voice of the ordinary Filipino,” resigned presidential communications official Esther Margaux “Mocha” Uson announced that she will seek an elective position in the 2019 midterm polls.

But Uson, an entertainer and blogger prior to her appointment to the Presidential Communications Operations Office, did not say what position she will run for.

Yestatakbo ako sa 2019,” Uson said during her appearance in a Senate hearing on the PCOO’s proposed budget for 2019.

Kung ako nga na ganitong klaseng tao ay sinisiraan ng ganyanpapaano na ang mga walang bosesDapat magkaroon ng boses ang ordinaryong Pilipino,” said Uson.

And so the die is cast. Mocha has thrown her string bikini into the political ring supported by her 5.8 or is it 6.8 million engaged followers and President Rodrigo Duterte who expressed his support in an interview by Mocha herself last Tuesday.

In that interview she also expressed that she will seek public office preferably in Congress. As of this time there is no confirmation yet whether in Senate or the House of Representatives but indications are that she is more inclined for a congressional seat.

And you’re pissed off by this recent development in Le Affair Mocha? Lovely then, because that’s the idea. And you have to admit it made you scrutinize more closely the credentials of all the incumbents and the wannabes.

So who or what is Mocha the person and the beverage?

All coffee shop habituates, particularly those belonging to the “Starbucks kind”, are quite familiar with Mocha the beverage.

Starbucks Grande Caffè Mocha (sometimes called a Mochaccino) is made from espresso, steamed milk, and their mocha syrup. It is sometimes topped with whipped cream. Starbucks Mocha will be higher in caffeine than their other espresso beverages because of the cocoa and coffee syrup used in the beverage.

Meanwhile …

Esther Margaux “Mocha” Justiniano Uson, known mononymously as Mocha, is a Filipina singer, dancer, model, blogger, and appointive public official. She is also co-founder of the group Mocha Girls.

Mocha Uson served as a member of the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) from January 2017 through her appointment as Assistant Secretary of the Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) in May by Philippine President. She resigned from office on Oct. 3, 2018.

Uson was born in DagupanPangasinan, Philippines. Her father, Oscar Uson, was a judge of the Regional Trial Court who was assassinated in September 2002 in Asingan, Pangasinan. Her mother, Estrelita Uson, was a paediatrician in Dagupan and a breast cancer survivor. Due to her baby’s dark complexion, Uson’s mother was frequently gifted with mocha-flavored cakes and ice cream which inspired the child’s nickname.

Mocha Uson graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in medical technology from the University of Santo Tomas in 1998. She later enrolled at the university’s Faculty of Medicine and Surgery school in 1999, but left during her second year to pursue professional modelling and a song-and-dance career.

Que horror…que barbaridad…Mocha Uson is an educated person, an alumna of the Pontifical University, the University of Santo Tomas so she is not some two-bit exotic dancer from a strip joint in Cubao.

If she becomes a senator she’s in good company: Sen. Risa Hontiveros is an alumna of Kuya Germ’s That’s Entertainment while Sen. Nancy Binay studied to become a tourist guide. Sen. Grace Poe is the daughter of the original Panday.

Never mind Sen. Bambam Aquino, he’s just into cosplay; no showbiz pedigree.

In the House of Representatives if she becomes a congresswoman Mocha will be rubbing elbows with a lot of pseudo-communists who are also into cosplay and assholes like Aniceto Bertiz a.k.a. John and Edsel Lagman.

So make mine Caffè Mocha Grande, preferably sweet and hot. (brotherlouie16@gmail.com/PN)
