BACOLOD City – Only 27 out of 61 barangays in the city have designated firecracker zones, according to Executive Assistant Ernesto Pineda.
These areas have been endorsed to the Bureau of Fire Protection and the Bacolod City Police Office on Dec. 21.
The BFP and the BCPO have earlier requested the villages to submit their proposed firecracker zones in relation to President Rodrigo Duterte’s Executive Order (EO) 28.
Only barangays 1,2 ,5 ,8 ,10, 12, 14, 15, 16, 21, 22, 24, 28, 29, 31, 32, 33, 38, 39, 41, Banago, Cabug, Granada, Mansilingan, Punta Taytay, Taculing, and Villamonte were able to pass.
EO 28, signed last year, regulates and controls the use of firecrackers and other pyrotechnic devices.
Under the EO, community fireworks display areas should be designated under the supervision of the Philippine National Police and the local government unit.
Meanwhile, Mayor Evelio Leonardia is inviting the public to come to the city government’s New Year countdown on the evening of Dec. 31.
A fireworks display is the highlight of the annual event held at the Bacolod City Government Center.
According to Leonardia, the fireworks show is the “safest way” to welcome the New Year./PN
