BACOLOD City – To ensure the safety of everyone this Yuletide season, the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) in this city and the city government yesterday launched the “Oplan Iwas Paputok; Paskong Ligtas, Bagong Taong Maaliwalas” campaign.

BFP-Bacolod City fire marshal, Supt. Jenny Mae Masip, and Councilor Pao Sy led the activity at the Pope John Paul Tower II in Reclamation Area, Barangay 12.

Also present were Colonel Joeresty Coronica, director of the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO), and other representatives from different offices of the city government.

Masip said the event was launched in the said area where the 62 firecracker vendors are allowed to sell.

According to the BFB-Bacolod City, they will conduct monitoring in the area from time to time to ensure that vendors are following the guidelines in selling firecrakers.

The “Oplan Iwas Paputok” campaign aims to prevent or minimize injuries, accidents, and fires caused by the misuse of firecrackers and other pyrotechnic devices. It highlights the importance of celebrating responsibly by encouraging communities to opt for safer alternatives.

The BFP works closely with local government units, schools, and community organizations to spread awareness through information drives, seminars, and public demonstrations. The campaign emphasizes the legal restrictions on certain firecrackers and the penalties for violating these regulations.

Additionally, it teaches first-aid measures for common injuries and educates the public on fire prevention tips to ensure household safety.

“Oplan Iwas Paputok” further promotes the use of community fireworks displays instead of personal firecracker use./PN
