Organic farming knowledge should be spread – Guimaras agriculturist

‘Boost to local agri-ecotourism’

ILOILO City – Lorna Morante, Agriculturist II of the Provincial Office of Agricultural Services (POAS), expressed that organic farming methods need to be shared to other agro-forestry co-operators and farmers.

“The organic farming method seeks to increase long term soil fertility. So it is good nga may-ara nata co-operators sa taga munisipyo para sila nato ang manguna sa ila lugar. Nationwide educational and promotional campaign for organic farming like sang aton training subong. Kung pwede pa lang ang aton nga matun-an i-hands-on naton pag abot naton sa aton balay kag ipabalo sa iban,” she said during the training on organic farming held on Sept. 18 to 20, 2018, at the Bamboo Garden Restaurant Igcawayan, San Lorenzo, Guimaras.

Agro-forestry co-operators, farm workers and the five municipal agriculturist of the province of Guimaras were the participants of the said training.

The training aims to capacitate them with the knowledge and skills on natural way of farming thereby producing vegetables free of synthetic chemicals hazardous to health and the environment.

Moreover, the training include to provide the participants farm equipment’s such as garden tools, ingredients for concoctions and African Night Crawler for vermin-cast production to complement organic vegetables production to support trading industry, promote healthy lifestyle of the consumers and to have an agri-ecotourism environment friendly in the province.

Meanwhile, Brenda Hansson of Igcawayan, San Lorenzo, Guimaras, an agro-forestry co-operator expressed her gratitude to the facilitators of the said training.

“We learned how to plant organic and where to sell our products. Nabal-an namon ang mga harmful nga chemicals, especially ang grass killers. Naga pasalamat gid kami sang dako sa mga nabalan namon kag salamat man sa pag-imbitar sa amon sa sini nga training,” she said./PN
