Osaka firms aim to make PH benchmark for economic growth

MANILA – A Japanese business federation has invited Filipino companies to participate in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) meeting slated on April 5 in Osaka, Japan, as it intends to benchmark with Philippine economic growth.

This was bared by Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) President Alegria Sibal Limjoco after her meeting with top officials of Kansai Economic Federation (KANKEIREN) in Osaka here.

“They want to know how the Philippines can help them grow in Osaka that is why, they came here to invite us because they said we are amazed at the growth of the Philippines,” she told reporters Tuesday night.

Limjoco said the 30-member Japanese delegation, which is in the country until Thursday, claimed it “would like to benchmark with the growth of our country.”

For the ASEAN meeting next month, she said KANKEIREN has invited speakers from the Philippines who are coming from human resources, medical, health and wellness, tourism, small and medium enterprises (SME), and agriculture sectors.

“They would like to hear also the other countries – Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, to also for them to share (their economic growth experiences) because they said they are not growing so much,” Limjoco said.

“Asia is growing because this is an Asian century, the growth will really be in our area. Sila naiiwanan daw (they claimed they were left behind) so they are inviting the different countries to share,” she added. (PNA)
