Oton man with string of criminal cases found dead

ILOILO City – A man facing a string of criminal cases was found dead in Barangay Trapiche, Oton, Iloilo on Sunday. He had a gunshot wound on the head.

Ronel Batangas, 34, was a resident of Barangay Poblacion South, Oton. His body was found by tricycle driver Ronald Servano around 8:45 p.m.

According to Chief Inspector Gervinson Moyo, Oton police chief, Moyo was last seen alive binge drinking with friends on Saturday night at a relative’s house in Barangay Poblacion South, a few meters away from the victim’s house.

“He left his friends to go home but failed to reach his house,” said Moyo.

Residents near the spot where Batangas’ body was found claimed hearing four bursts of gunfire past 8 p.m. on Saturday.

“The victim probably knew the suspects,” said Moyo.

As of this writing, the Oton police was yet to name any suspect.

Batangas was not in the Oton police station’s list of suspected drug personalities, said Moyo, “but he had a string of criminal cases in court.”

These cases were for illegal possession of bladed weapon, robbery and illegal possession of firearm.

“We are reviewing his cases,” said Moyo, in the hope of finding leads on the victim’s shooting./PN
