ILOILO – The Public Employment Service Office (PESO) of the municipality of Oton was adjudged as the province’s best in the recent 2020 Governor’s Award.
Oton’s PESO bested those of nominees Alimodian, Balasan, Barotac Nuevo, Barotac Viejo, Cabatuan, Janiuay, Passi City, Tigbauan, Tubungan, and Zarraga.
Oton also received the Innovation and Resilience special award during the awarding rites on Dec. 6. Gov. Arthur Defensor Jr. and Provincial Board members Rolando Distura and Dorothy Paes presented the award.
Passi City bagged the Humanitarian Service and Resilience award.
Barotac Viejo and Balasan got special awards in Innovation. They received plaques of recognition and cash incentives.
PESO-Iloilo manager Francisco Heler Jr. also recognized local government units (LGUs) with institutionalized PESOs. These were Miag-ao, Oton, Santa Barbara, Passi City, Tigbauan, Janiuay, and Barotac Viejo. Each received a P3,000 cash prize.
LGUs that implemented localized programs of the Department of Labor and Employment – Concepcion, Passi City and Tigbauan – were also recognized.
Passi City and the towns of Carles, Santa Barbara, Tigbauan, Janiuay, Balasan, Cabatuan, Zarraga, and Barotac Nuevo were also cited for establishing barangay PESO coordinators.
According to Heler, LGUs have a vital role in people’s employment most especially in this time of pandemic./PN
