ILOILO – In this province, the town of Oton has the most number of drug personalities.

The Oton police station listed 45, followed by Passi City (37), Dumangas (36), Barotac Nuevo (28), Pototan (25), and Estancia (25).

The police chiefs of these areas were instructed by Senior Superintendent Roderick Augustus Alba, police provincial director, to get these identified suspects before Oct. 22.

According to Chief Inspector Aron Palomo, spokesperson of the Iloilo Police Provincial Office (IPPO), Oct. 22 is the date of the second assessment of the police stations’ performance in the campaign against illegal drugs.

There are a total of 43 police stations in the province.

Chief Inspector Alejandro Apostol, Oton police chief, clarified yesterday they already arrested two, bringing down their targets to 43 as of yesterday.

The two suspects they arrested were Gerald Legarde (Sept. 10 in Barangay Trapiche) and Marlon Gonzaga (Sept. 13 in Barangay Cagbang).
Meanwhile, Passi City police chief Superintendent Ruby Gumban said they find it hard to arrest their targets. Some of them already left the city or stopped peddling shabu, she explained.

From the target lists of police stations across the province, the IPPO counted a total of 540 drug personalities.
Two weeks ago, the Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) reshuffled 22 police chiefs, citing their poor performance in the campaign against illegal drugs. But last week, it ordered six to return to their posts after their mayors complained.

This Monday, it announced that the relief of 10 more police chiefs were reconsidered.
“They were given more time to do their job,” said Superintendent Gilbert Gorero, PRO-6 spokesperson./PN
