Over 1,000 kids in Iloilo province vaxxed vs COVID

ILOILO – As of 4 p.m. yesterday, 1,140 children between five to 11 years old in this province received their first dose of the vaccine against coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

Yesterday was the first day of the pediatric vaccination for COVID-19 across Western Visayas.

It went very well, said Dr. Maria Socorro Colmenares-Quiñon, the Provincial Health Office (PHO) chief.

None of the vaccinated children suffered adverse effects, she pointed out.

Pfizer’s reformulated COVID-19 vaccine was used.

Here’s the breakdown per town/area of the vaccinated children:

* Badiangan (48)

* Bingawan (60)

* Carles (190)

* Batad (100)

* Concepcion (eight)

* Banate (113)

* Oton (78)

* San Joaquin (157)

* San Miguel (40)

* Igbaras (97)

* Robinsons’ Place Pavia (63)

* West Visayas State University (WVSU) – Cultural Center in La Paz district (126))

The children were accompanied by their parents.

The three major vaccination sites were the WVSU Cultural Center,  Robinsons Place Pavia and Aleosan District Hospital in Alimodian.

The PHO prepared food treats for the children.

There were also TV monitors showing children’s movies to keep children entertained during the post vaccination assessment.

The provincial government aims to inoculate a total of 267,470 kids aged five to 11 years old in the entire province.

The 10 LGUs with high pediatric vaccination targets were Oton (12,308), Passi City (11,129), Pototan (10,370), Lambunao (10,173), Dumangas (9,545), Carles (9,411), Miag-ao (9,332), Tigbauan (8,664), Santa Barbara (8,318), and Pavia (7,679). 

Here’s the rest of the targets: Ajuy (7,223), Alimodian (5,311), Anilao (3,959), Badiangan (3,730), Balasan (4,570), Banate (4,839), Barotac Nuevo (7,131), Barotac Viejo (6,327), Batad (1,423), Bingawan (2,098), Cabatuan (3,908), Calinog (4,043), Concepcion (5,963), Dingle (6,263), Dueñas (4,727), Estancia (6,704), Guimbal (4,671), Igbaras (4,421), Janiuay (8,827),  Leganes (4,485), Lemery (4,262), Leon (6,885), Maasin (5,101), Mina (3,250), New Lucena (3,211), San Dionisio (5,355), San Enrique (2,056), San Joaquin (7,169), San Miguel (3,826), San Rafael (2,282), Sara (7,268), Tubungan (3,104), and Zarraga (3,537).

Dr. Teresa Martirez Hallegado, Philippine Pediatric Society-West Visayas Chapter president who also graced the event kickoff vaccination, stressed that COVID-19 vaccine is safe for children./PN
