BACOLOD City – The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board Region 6 (LTFRB-6) said over the weekend it is expecting more than a thousand modernized public utility jeepneys (PUJs) to be in service in this city by next year.
LTFRB-6 spokesperson, Atty. Salvador Altura, in a radio interview, said around 1,099 modernized PUJs will be plying the streets of Bacolod before the end of April 2023.
There are currently 164 units of modernized PUJs operating in the city.
An additional 274 modernized PUJs will be operating before the end of November this year while an estimated 438 units will begin operating by next month, pending loan approval from banks.
Meanwhile, a total of 53 unawarded units on five routes have yet to be given to operators.
Among the routes are Paglaum-Libertad, Alangilan-Burgos, BREDCO Port-North Bus Terminal, CEGASCO-Government Center, and Doña Juliana-Central Market.
Altura added that they are ready to request for additional units if they notice any shortages in the number of modernized PUJs available./PN
