Over 121,000 learners enrolled in Iloilo so far

ILOILO – As of Aug. 20, the Department of Education (DepEd) Schools Division of Iloilo recorded 121,849 kinder to senior high school enrollees for school year 2021-2022 in both public and private schools.

The number of enrollees could still rise, according to Leonil Salvilla, information officer of DepEd in Iloilo.

Several private school learners may transfer to public schools due to the coronavirus pandemic, he said.

The enrollment is until Sept. 13.  The Schools Division of Iloilo is targeting 526,067 public school learners for the new school year, excluding the learners in the Alternative Learning System (ALS) and Special Education, among others, which are currently at 30,000 to 40,000.

Enrollment kicked off Aug. 16 with learners and parents opting for different modes.

“May ara kita nagpa-enroll through printed enrollment forms… may ara man remote enrollment like phone call, text message or online forms,” Salvilla told Panay News.

Salvilla is also encouraging learners and parents not to wait for the deadline.

Gina-agda gid naton ang mga ginikanan sa pagpa-enroll na sang ila mga kabataan before the deadline para masiguro naton nga padayon ang edukasyon sang aton mga kabataan sa pihak sang pandemiya. Madamo sang pamaagi agud magpa-enroll nga nagapasiguro man nga safe ang tanan,” added Salvilla.

How to enroll?

Salvilla, in a previous interview, spelled out the different modes of enrollment.

One is the adviser-based enrollment wherein communication would only be between the advisers of the previous and new school year.

Parents and learners shall only comply with requirements for enrollment such as the report card.

“Mahulat lang sila sang confirmation sang adviser signifying that they are already enrolled,” said Salvilla.

“We assume nga ang bata kon napasaran ‘ya man lang ang last school year, automatic masaka man sia sa next grade level.”

Enrollment can also go virtually.

“Puede man online-based, may mga schools kita nga nagahatag sang link sa aton nga parents and kabataan and online form nga puede ka-fill out providing the required information para ma-consider sila as enrolled,” said Salvilla.

Parents and students can also enroll through text or call.

Often, a focal teacher per grade level is assigned to entertain the call or messages.

Lastly, “hand carry” submission could also be possible, especially to parents and students residing in areas without internet or reception./PN
