ILOILO – A total of 14,018 barangay service volunteers in this province are set to receive a cash allowance of P4,000 each by the first week of December.
According to Provincial Administrator Raul Banias yesterday, the Provincial Treasurer’s Office (PTO) has been instructed to release a total of P56,072,000 for the allowance.
“The Sangguniang Panlalawigan approved the allocation for these volunteers. They help deliver government frontline services to the barangays,” said Banias.
These barangay service volunteers are Barangay Health Workers (8,356), Daycare Workers (1,819), Barangay Service Point Officers (2,232), and Barangay Nutrition Scholars (1,611) serving 1,721 barangays.
The allowance covers the period from Jan. 1, 2018 to Dec. 31, 2018 as recognition of the volunteers’ efforts and for their contribution to the continued and sustained implementation of the provincial government’s programs on health, population and social welfare, said Gov. Arthur Defensor Sr.
Barangay service volunteers have no fixed salaries. They only receive honoraria from the barangays where they are assigned.
