ILOILO – The Provincial Treasurer’s Office has started releasing P1,000 cash incentive to each barangay tanod in Iloilo.
Each of the province’s 1,721 barangays has barangay tanods ranging from six to 15, depending on the village’s size and population.
As of July 30, 2021, the master list of the Department of Interior and Local Government had 15,395 Iloilo barangay tanods.
Provincial Administrator Raul Banias, together with 2nd District Provincial Board members June Mondejar and Rolito Cajilig, and Provincial Treasurer Jean Maire Umadhay, led the ceremonial turnover of the incentive in the municipality of Tubungan on Monday, June 19.
Mondejar said the incentive is for barangay tanods who served during the fiscal year 2022, adding it was supposedly released every December but was delayed due to documentary requirements.
The annual incentive is in line with Provincial Ordinance 2020-240 granting such.
“Purpose ya agud nga ma-motivate, inspire and encourage ang aton barangay tanods sa pagpadayun sang ila nga boluntaryo nga serbisyo para sa kalinong kag katawhay sang kabarangayan sang probinsya,” Mondejar told Panay News. “The amount is smaller compared to the incentives given to other barangay volunteer workers such as Barangay Health Workers, Barangay Service Point officers, daycare workers and Barangay Nutrition Scholars because there are so many of them.”
Mondejar thanked Gov. Arthur Defensor, Jr. for appropriating funds for the incentives. (With a report from Balita Halin sa Kapitolyo)/PN
