BACOLOD City – More than a thousand modified motorcycle mufflers were destroyed yesterday in San Carlos City, Negros Occidental.
Police Lieutenant Col. Jesus Mesahon, city police chief, said the mufflers have been confiscated since January 2022.
The mufflers were trampled with a road roller, leaving them unusable.
He also said the city’s police force will continue to apprehend motorists who illegally modify mufflers under Republic Act 4136, or the Land Transportation and Traffic Code, and City Ordinance No. 16-11, which bans the use of mufflers that emit noise pollution.
Mayor Renato Gustilo said the city government is just doing its part to go after noisy motorcycles with modified mufflers.
Another issue that is arising in the city, according to Gustilo, is illegal motorcycle racing.
“Parents who tolerate their children for doing such [an activity] are like pushing them into accidents,” Gustilo said./PN
