ILOILO City – Over 2,000 job seekers participated in the recent Labor Day job fair that the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Region 6 conducted at Robinsons Place Jaro.
Of these job hunters, 1,488 preregistered while the rest just showed up during the fair, according to Niezel Anen Sabrido, labor relations focal person of DOLE-6.
That day, 65 applicants were hired on the spot for local employment.
Some 4,000 applicants, on the other hand, underwent initial interview by participating local companies and overseas job placement agencies.
According to Sabrido, most job seekers applied as technical support / customer service representatives (business process outsourcing) and service crew (hotel and accommodation).
Nearly 40,000 job vacancies were up for grabs during the job fair – 34,000 overseas-based and 6,000 local employment.
Top job vacancies available for local employment were for technical support / customer service representatives (business process outsourcing), service crew (hotel and accommodation) and registered nurses.
Other participating companies sought out graduates of accounting and business courses (accountants, auditors, accounting staff, bookkeepers, and cashiers).
Still, others offered engineering-related positions such as civil engineers.
Meanwhile, overseas job vacancies offered included those for registered nurses, carpenters, farmers, masons, drivers, engineers, teachers, welders, and waiters./PN
