More than 300 new classrooms will be built for 32 public schools in the city in the coming years.
The Department of Public Works and Highways will hold biddings for the construction of 311 classrooms in the third quarter this year, said Rep. Greg Gasataya.
The new classrooms will include regular instruction classrooms, information technology stations, science laboratories, and workshops.
Funding will come from the Department of Education, said Gasataya.
Of the total planned classrooms, 68 were allotted for Negros Occidental High School.
The rest will be divided to several elementary and high schools, depending on their needs.
Thirty-two of the new classrooms will be single-story while 279 will be multistory.
Gasataya said lobbied for the project with the Education department after learning from City Schools Division Superintendent Cynthia Demavivas that there is a “shortage” of classrooms in Bacolod schools.
The congressman said he pushed for the inclusion of the project in the 2017 budget during hearings last year./PN
