ILOILO City – Four more barangays here have been declared as drug-cleared during the recent virtual deliberation of the Regional Oversight Committee in the campaign against drug trafficking.
The four barangays were San Pedro (Jaro district); Magdalo (La Paz district); Rizal Lapuz Sur (Lapuz district); and Villa Anita (City Proper).
This raised to 92 the total drug-cleared barangays in the city – or 51.1 percent of the 180 total barangays her.
Mayor Jerry Treñas thanked barangays officials, Philippine National Police (PNP), Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), and City Health Office (CHO) for their drug-clearing efforts.
“We are now over 50 percent percent drug cleared…I will make sure that we continue to give all-out support to our barangays,” said Treñas.
The oversight committee was composed of PDEA as chair, and representatives from the Police Regional Office 6, Department of Interior and Local Government and the Department of Health.
According to PDEA, before declaring a barangay is free from illegal drugs, the committee must convene and make a validation on the non-availability of illegal drug supply in the area, absence of drug transit activity, absence of clandestine drug laboratory and chemical warehouse, absence of marijuana cultivation site, absence of drug den, drug pushers and users./PN
