ILOILO – A total of 5,557 Ilonggos were able to land jobs here and abroad last year with the help of the Public Employment Service Office (PESO) of the provincial government.
This, among many other achievements, made PESO-Iloilo bag the regional Best PESO, provincial (first class) category award for 2017.
PESO-Iloilo chief Francisco Heler Jr. said the 5,557 Ilonggos employed last year was higher than the 3,369 Ilonggos that the office successfully helped get jobs in 2016.
This was the third consecutive time PESO-Iloilo was declared the best among its peers in Western Visayas. It also won the award in 2016 and 2015.
Heler received from Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) regional director Cyril Ticao a plaque of recognition during the Regional Career Advocacy and Employment Congress in Roxas City on Sept. 12.
With its latest victory, PESO-Iloilo earned the right to represent Region 6 in the national search for Best PESO. The awarding is in Davao City during the three-day PESO national congress from October 25 to 27.
PESO-Iloilo was a national awardee in 2015 and 2016.
Heler said PESO-Iloilo accomplished much in 2017. Among these were the conduct of job fairs, career coaching and employment orientation, establishing a PESO Employment Information System, tapping barangay PESO coordinators, and conducting a provincial search for best PESO among local government units.
Other winners in the regional best PESO search were the municipalities of Lambunao (1st class municipality category) and Barotac Viejo (3rd class municipality category).
These towns were also Region 6’s nominees in the national search for their respective categories./PN
