ILOILO City – More than 80 barangays in this city have yet to be declared free from illegal drugs, latest data from the Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) showed.

Here is the breakdown of the number of barangays under the six district police stations:

* 11 under Police Station 1 in City Proper

* 21 under Police Station 3 in Jaro

* 14 under Police Station 4 in Molo

* Nine under Police Station 5 in Mandurriao

* Eight under Police Station 6 in Arevalo

Police Lieutenant Colonel Antonio Benitez Jr., the head of the ICPO Intelligence Unit, said the supply of illegal drugs usually comes from bodegeros and would be distributed to drug pushers or street-level individuals.

Ang ina nga street-level individual nagakwa siya sang supply didto sa isa ka bodegero kag ang bodegero damo na siya sang street level nga ginahaboyan (supply of illegal drugs,” Benitez said in an interview with Bombo Radyo Iloilo.

The recent confiscation of the P20.4 million worth of suspected shabu was a result of their monitoring of bodegeros, said Benitez.

Drug suspects aliases “Shanon” and “Anne” and their alleged helper “Rose Anne” were arrested on Nov. 9 in Jaro district.

Couple Shanon and Anne were bodegeros of the illegal substance, which they distribute in the city and province of Iloilo, police said.

The police added that their alleged source was the New Bilibid Prison in Muntinlupa City./PN
