ILOILO City – More than 80 percent of the claims of seven private hospitals here have already been paid by the Philippine Health Insurance Corp. (PhilHealth).
December last year these hospitals threatened to sever ties with the state health insurer for failing to pay their claims that reached nearly P900 million.
The hospitals cited Mayor Jerry Treñas’ help.
“Your initiative, which was never heard of before from other local government leaders, inspired us to pursue our rightful claims from PhilHealth,” the hospital chiefs, administrators and presidents wrote the city mayor.
They were Sr. Arcelita S. Sarnillo, administrator of St. Paul’s Hospital Iloilo (SPHI); Dr. Alejandro Emmanuel Rivera, president and medical director of Iloilo Doctors’ Hospital (IDH); Dr. Elmer Pedregosa, administrator of Iloilo Mission Hospital (IMH); Dr. Marcelo Jaen, president/medical director of Medicus Medical Center (MCC); Dr. Nathaniel H. Chan, chief operating officer of Qualimed Hospital Iloilo; Dr. Felix Ray Villa, chief executive officer The Medical City Hospital Iloilo (TMCI); and Dr. Danilo Encarnacion, president/CEO of Metro Iloilo Hospital and Medical Center, Inc. (MIHMCI).
The hospitals, however, clarified that there is a continuing process of reconciliation particularly of the current claims.
Still, they noted an improvement in the relationship of the hospitals with PhilHealth Region 6.
Treñas assured the private hospitals of his continuing support./PN
