BACOLOD City – In Negros Occidental 84,758 children have so far been vaccinated against measles, rubella and polio in the ongoing “Chikiting Ligtas” campaign, data from the Department of Health (DOH) Region 6 showed.

The number is 38.08 percent of the target 222,590 children in the province.

Dr. Adriano Suba-an, DOH-6 director, said they were surprised, noting that Negros Occidental has a low COVID-19 vaccination turnout. He lauded mayors and health officials.

Suba-an hopes Negros Occidental will be able to vaccinate 95 percent of the target population.

In coordination with local government units, DOH-6 targets to vaccinate 660,054 children aged nine to 59 months against measles and rubella and 769,881 children aged zero to 59 months against polio during the month-long measles-rubella and oral polio vaccine supplementary immunization activity from May 1 to 31.

Second to Negros Occidental in the “Chikiting Ligtas” vaccination campaign is Guimaras with 4,861 children so far vaccinated (31.84 percent of its target 15,265 children), followed by Aklan with 15,264 children vaccinated (29.81 percent of the targeted 51,205)./PN
