KALIBO, Aklan – More than P1.6 million worth of illegal drugs were confiscated in Aklan in the first eight months of the year.
Authorities seized drugs with a Dangerous Drugs Board value of P1,629,754.21 from January to August, data from the provincial police showed.
Drugs seized in the same period in 2015 amounted to only P633,825.
The Aklan Police Provincial Office (APPO) also conducted 6,208 house visitations to urge identified drug personalities to stop engaging in the drug trafficking and/or use in light of Oplan Double Barrel.
Launched on July 1, the intensified antidrug campaign led to the surrender of more than 1,800 drug personalities in the province.
As of Sept. 22, the police also arrested 84 drug pushers and users out of the 112 in the watch list of drug targets.
Those arrested were charged with violating Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
The APPO also recorded a 64-percent drug affectation in the barangays (210 out of the 327) amid the campaign.
No killing that may be attributed to the government’s war against drug trafficking was reported in Aklan, the APPO said. (Aklan Forum Journal/PN)
