ILOILO City – The Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) continues its intensified campaign against all forms of illegal activities in Western Visayas, particularly on illegal logging and fishing, this June.

In its 22-day accomplishment report (June 1 to 22), different police units carried out 16 operations against illegal logging, leading to the confiscation of P619,000 worth of lumber.

They also arrested 24 individuals.

One notable operation was carried out by the Capiz police. They arrested six persons from four operations and seized P553,971 worth of lumber.

Brigadier General Jack Wanky, PRO-6 director, said the police force will continue to monitor and arrest those involved in illegal logging to protect the region’s forest resources.

In the campaign against illegal fishing, Western Visayas police caught 245 individuals from 81 operations.

PRO-6 data showed that Negros Occidental listed the most number of “illegal fishers” arrested at 95, followed by Iloilo with 84, Antique (23), Aklan and Capiz (16 each), and Guimaras (11).

Wanky said these efforts reflect the regional police office’s commitment to preserving marine resources and maintaining ecological balance./PN
