ILOILO City – Two individuals were injured after the tricycle they were riding was hit by a car in Barangay Claudio Castilla El-98, Jaro district around 4:30 a.m. yesterday.
Police identified the victims as live-in partners Alfredo Tato, 36, and Faith Jaleco, 28, of Jaro. Both were immediately brought to the Western Visayas Medical Center for proper medical treatment.
Meanwhile, Jaro police did not disclose the name of the driver of the private vehicle.
According to Police Master Sgt. Alexander Ajilles of the Jaro police station, their investigation revealed that the car was overspeeding.
He added that the vehicle first hit an “angkar-angkar” loaded with coconuts and watermelons parked at the Jaro Big Market and then hit the tricycle of the couple.
“Sa amon imbestigasyon, naga-travel ni ang Toyota Vios halin sa Taft North, paglab-ot dira sa tubang sang Big Market nabunggoan niya ni una ang angkar-angkar nga may karga butong. Tungod sa impact siguro, nakibot siya, imbes nga preno natapakan ‘ya pa gid ang gasolinyador. Amo to nga dumeretso siya kag nalambot ‘ya pa gid ang tricycle nga ginasakyan sang mga biktima nga ga-travel man same direction sa iya,” Ajilles said in an interview with DYRI RMN Iloilo.
According to those who saw the incident, a woman allegedly switched positions and pretended to be the driver of the car after the accident, but Ajilles denied it.
Ajilles said that the car driver and the victims came to a settlement and that the former will pay all the expenses.
The police officer added that no charges were filed./PN
