OWWA distributes assistance to Aklan OFWs, dependents

KALIBO, Aklan – The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) distributed education and livelihood assistance to overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) and dependents in Aklan.

OWWA deputy administrators Esther Margaux Uson and Faustino Sabarez III distributed the checks to beneficiaries on April 28 at the Aklan provincial capitol here.

Checks were released to 24  beneficiaries of Balik Pinas Balik Hanap Buhay (BPBH), seven beneficiaries of Project Alalay Para sa mga Anak OFWs sa Panahon ng Pandemya (PAP) and four beneficiaries of the Educational Livelihood Assistance Program (ELAP), OFW Dependents Scholarship Program (ODSP) and Welfare Assistance Program (WAP).

Out of the 35 recipients, six are residents of Kalibo; the rest were from the different towns in Aklan.

Gov. Florencio Miraflores and OWWA acting regional director Rizza May Moldes assisted in the distribution of checks.

“Marami na ang nakatanggap ng tulong sa OWWA kahit ngayong pandemya. Ito ay assistance sa ating mga OFWs at dependents. Sa OWWA ang miyembro protektado,” Uson said.

BPBH is a livelihood package for returning displaced OFWs while active or non-active OWWA members and their families who are not eligible under any existing OWWA Social Benefit Programs and Services are recipients of WAP.

Uson urged the OFWs to renew or file their OWWA membership to avail themselves of the benefits and programs of the agency./PN
