ROXAS City — City councilors have approved a P13.5-million budget for the purchase of a bulldozer in a bid to solve garbage problems here.
Councilor Matthew James Viterbo said the city government has bulldozers but none of them are functional.
One of them was “repairable,” but wear and tear “seemed to have caught up” with the heavy equipment, said Vice Mayor Ronnie Dadivas.
The bulldozer will be used to shove to another area the garbage at the dumpsite in Barangay Sibaguan which is already “full,” said Councilor Julius Abela.
Abela and fellow councilor Jose Agdalipe offered their respective properties as temporary dumpsites.
The Sangguniang Panlungsod approved the budget on Tuesday.
Of the total amount, P8 million will be sourced from the savings of the Teodoro Arcenas Trade Center, one of the city’s economic enterprises, and P5.5 million from the general fund.
Mayor Angel Alan Celino had said the city government will build a sanitary landfill in Barangay San Jose.
Councilor Cora Balgos–Tiangco, meanwhile, suggested that barangays at the city proper be mobilized for garbage collection./PN
