ILOILO – Residents of the farthest barangay in San Enrique town hailed the completion of a P16.7-million road concreting project that aims to enhance connectivity and local development.
The 1.1-kilometer stretch of the Madarag-Iprog Junction National Road was officially inaugurated on July 5. It links the municipality of San Enrique with Passi City, and is anticipated to benefit over 1,000 households across several barangays including Iprog, Madarag, Agtabo, Dalicanan, and Gemumua-Agahon.
The provincial government funded the road project. Mayor Rosario Mediatrix “Trixie” Fernandez said this is “one of the biggest projects” San Enrique has received from the provincial government.
The project is seen as a milestone in the municipality’s development, providing not only a safer and smoother travel route for residents but also boosting economic activities through enhanced trade and easier transport of agricultural products.
Further emphasizing the provincial government’s commitment to improving infrastructure, an additional P38 million has been allocated for the second phase of the project.
This phase will extend the concreting work by another 900 meters, directly connecting Barangay Iprog to the national highway.
The road inauguration was led by 4th District Provincial Board member Rolando Distura, representing Gov. Arthur Defensor Jr., along with Fernandez, Provincial Engineer Romeo Andig, Uswag Ilonggo party-list’s Cong. James “Joj”o Ang, and Iloilo Police Provincial Office Director Bayani Razalan./PN
