ILOILO – Residents of the remote barangay of Igcabugao in the municipality of Igbaras can now travel faster and safer to the town proper and back.

Thanks to P2.602-million hanging bridge inaugurated on Thursday morning, Sept. 8, by Gov. Arthur Defensor Jr. and Mayor Juvic Elmido Escorpion.

Escorpion said the hanging bridge straddling a river would benefit the residents not only of Barangay Igcabugao but also of neighboring barangays such as Indaluyon, Cale, Passi, and Pinaopawan.

They could now safely cross to the other side of the river even during bad weather.

“Amo ni sia ang barangay sang Igbaras nga next ya is Tubungan town and next is the province of Antique. Madugay na ini sia nga ginapangayo sang aton kasimanwa dira that is why gintinguhaan gid naton nga mabuligan,” said Defensor.

The bridge could also help boost local tourism. Nearby is Guiritsan Falls and Lagsakan Falls.

“Nami ni sia nga tourism destination. Let me sell Igcabugao to the rest of the world nga dira lapit ang waterfalls…tama gid katin-aw sang tubig sa suba,” said Defensor.
