SAN JOSE, Antique – The government granted out-of-school youths (OSYs) in Tobias Fornier town a P2-million livelihood assistance.
The amount will be used to train at least 50 youths and civil society organization members on welding and lathe machine operation.
A portion will also be used to put up a “production and training center” where the trainees may put to use their acquired skills to earn.
The local government will facilitate the training through the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority.
The beneficiaries will be trained specifically on lathe machine operation and gas tungsten arc welding.
The livelihood assistance was granted through the Bottom-Up Budgeting for 2016 under the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).
Mayor Jose Maria Fornier received the funding from DTI provincial director Mercedes Young.
Tobias Fornier, a fourth-class municipality in southern Antique, has agricultural crops and livestock production as major industry.
But less attention is given to its small-scale or cottage industry, so the town is far behind in terms of modern technology use. (PNA)
