BACOLOD City – A three-storey building for the Progreso Village National High School (PVNHS) will soon rise in Barangay Vista Alegre.

The P20-million building will have 15 classrooms to accommodate over 500 Grade 7 and Grade 8 students of the PVNHS this school year.

It will be built in the 1.2-hectare lot adjacent to the Vista Alegre-Granada Relocation Elementary School (VAGRES).

The PVNHS was established in 2017 but since the school still do not have a building at the time, its students were housed at the VAGRES.

VAGRES has catered to around 1,800 pupils last school year. Barangay Vista Alegre has a population of over 6,000.

Once the construction of the PVNHS is completed, the students will be made to transfer there.

Bacolod City Schools Division Superintendent Cynthia Demavivas said PVNHS will continue accepting Grade 9 and 10 students in the coming years.

For his part, Vista Alegre village chief Jose Maria Leandro Norberto De Leon said the PVNHS building will be “of great help” to his constituents.

Parents would no longer send their children to high schools outside the barangay since they already have one, De Leon said. This will cut their transportation expenses, he added.

Mayor Evelio Leonardia, Vice Mayor El Cid Familiaran and councilors Caesar Distrito, Em Ang, Bartolome Orola, and Renecito Novero attended yesterday’s groundbreaking./PN
