ILOILO City – The construction of new Tumagbok Bridge in Miag-ao, Iloilo is almost completed and soon to be fully opened to the traffic, according to the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), Regional Office 6.

According to regional director Wenceslao M. Leaño, Jr., the said bridge is substantially completed with some on-going works such as completion of approaches on both sides.

“We are currently concreting the remaining two lanes of approaches on both sides of the bridge and when completed, we can fully open the bridge to the motorists and the general public,” Leaño said.

Engr. Ormel G. Santos, chief of the Construction Division said that meantime, motorists can use the two inner lanes of the bridge where approaches are already concreted.

Santos added that the original design of the bridge will be restored wherein its steel railings will be reinstalled, to be added by concrete railings for the pedestrian.

Tumagbok Bridge is constructed along Iloilo-Antique Road, which serves as the main thoroughfare from Iloilo City to the southern part of Iloilo and the province of Antique, vice versa, thus the widening of this bridge will be very beneficial to the motorists and the public.

The old Tumagbok Bridge was just two lanes and dilapidated, hence, was reconstructed and widened into four lanes to complement the widening of Iloilo-Antique Road from two to four lanes.

The widened bridge will help improve the socio-economic development in the town of Miagao through smooth delivery of goods and services as well as improve traffic condition, considering that it is situated near a university./PN
