ROXAS City – The Liga ng mga Barangay in this capital city raised P50,000 as reward money for whoever can provide information that will lead to the identification of suspects in shooting Barangay Lawaan village chief Elvis Asis.
This is on top of the P50,000 reward money that Rep. Emmanuel Billones Sr. (Capiz, 1st District) earlier offered, said Barangay Milibili village chief Midelo Ocampo.
Ocampo also told Panay News that Mayor Angel Alan Celino vowed to give P100,000 as reward money, raising the amount to P200,000.
“The informant needs not to execute an affidavit. Any mere information that he or she could provide that would be helpful to the police investigation is enough,” Ocampo added.
Asis was gunned down while he was on board a motorcycle that Otel Casela was driving at around 8 p.m. on April 27.
Two suspects riding in tandem were responsible for the shooting.
Asis and Casela were on their way to a fiesta in Sitio Patag in Barangay Lawaan at the time, according to the police.
Three bullets hit Asis – one entering the back of his head exiting through his face, one entering his back exiting through his chest and another one on his arm, based on the autopsy that Provincial Crime Laboratory Medico Legal Officer Dr. Joe Martin Fuentes conducted.
Asis was pronounced dead after a few hours he was brought to the Capiz Doctors Hospital.
Casela, on the other hand, sustained a gunshot wound on the arm. He was treated at a hospital.
The Capiz Police Provincial Office (CPPO) formed a special investigation task group to look into Asis’ death.
CPPO director Superintendent Samuel Nacion has assigned Superintendent Dante Tayco, chief of the Roxas City police station, to head the special task group.
Tayco earlier told this reporter that the shooting was “well-planned.” He added that they “looking at three possible motives,” which he “cannot disclose yet.”/PN
