P27.4-B rehab plan for Iloilo final but…

ILOILO City – The proposed P27.4-billion rehabilitation plan for Iloilo province is already approved in principle but the P12 billion for the resettlement of families that super typhoon “Yolanda” displaced still needs validation.

The P12 billion may be reduced to P6 billion and the number of identified beneficiaries – 43,987 – may still be slashed, said Gov. Arthur Defensor Sr.

Revalidation is needed because some of the identified beneficiaries already received shelter assistance from private donors like Gawad Kalinga, he explained.

The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Office headed by Jerry Bionat has been given two weeks to do the revalidation.

“After the revalidation, it will be submitted again to the Cabinet Cluster for approval and for the final draft to be submitted to the President for approval,” the governor said.

The resettlement, based on National Housing Authority’s allocation, consists of house and lot worth P292,900 for each family-beneficiary.

Most of the beneficiaries live in coastal areas in the province whose houses are needed to be relocated to places resistant to typhoons./PN
