BACOLOD City – Jewelry worth P275,000 were stolen from an 84-year-old widow in Greenplains Subdivision, Barangay Singcang-Airport.
Police were still trying to identify and catch the thief who sneaked into the house of Leonisa Picaoco around 4:30 p.m. on Saturday.
Among those stolen were a pair of diamond earrings worth P200,000; a pair of pearl and diamond earrings, P20,000; a gold necklace with a Spanish medal pendant, P45,000; and a gold wristwatch, P10,000, Police Station 8 said.
The culprit climbed over a wall at the back of the house before unlatching the front door’s knob and heading to Picaoco’s bedroom, where they forcibly opened the cabinet that contained the jewelry, initial investigation showed.
Police found at the bedroom a 12-inch long trowel and a checkered polo shirt believed to be owned by the suspect./PN
