ILOILO City – A total of P3,826,787.72 worth of suspected shabu was confiscated a month after Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) officer-in-charge (OIC), Police Colonel Joeresty Coronica, was installed.
From Jan. 27 to Feb. 27, 33 anti-drug operations, led by the City Drug Enforcement Unit (CDEU), resulted to the arrest of 45 drug suspects who were subsequently charged with violation of Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
Coronica vowed to eradicate illegal drugs.
ICPO spokesperson, Police Major Shella Mae Sangrines, said the accomplishments proved the revitalized operations of the city police against illegal drugs.
“Sa isa ka bulan sang aton OIC, nakatigayon kita nga maka-kumpiskar sang 562.76 nga gramo sang suspected shabu,” said Sangrines.
The ICPO accomplishment report also showed 42 wanted persons were arrested and 24 others were apprehended for illegal gambling.
Coronica assumed as OIC of the ICPO on Jan. 27. It was followed by a revamp of the six police station chiefs and relief of the personnel of the Mandurriao police station and the CDEU.
Treñas thumbs up Coronica’s leadership
Mayor Jerry P. Treñas commended the leadership of Coronica.
He described him as “pro-active” especially in the fight against illegal drugs.
“I am very happy with the performance of Colonel Coronica. Pareho sang rally sang EDSA (anniversary), daw tawhay man. These are things nga kinanglan nga i-recognize while we respect ang pag-rally sang iban ta nga mga sector. Dapat respetuhon ta man nga waay man sang human rights violation kag mapaseguro ang kalinong kag katawhay,” said Treñas.
The city mayor added he is willing to recommend Coronica to be a full-fledged director./PN
