SAN JOSE, Antique – Schools that will be used as billeting areas during the Palarong Pambansa in Antique in April will be rehabilitated.
The Department of Education (DepEd) central office has downloaded to the schools P30 million for such purpose, said Gov. Rhodora Cadiao.
Cadiao met with DepEd assistant secretary Tonisito Umali at the close of the Western Visayas Regional Athletic Association Meet last week.
Twenty-two schools were identified as billeting areas.
They were checked during a technical meeting for the sporting event in December 2016. The inspector recommended that repairs be made, especially in the comfort rooms.
The 2017 edition of the national games will be held from April 23 to 29.
In a related development, Arthur Lastimoso, head of the Antique Palarong Pambansa Organizing Committee, went to Manila to follow up on the memorandum of agreement for the province’s hosting of the games.
Cadiao, DepEd secretary Leonor Briones and Philippine Sports Commission head William Ramirez should have signed the agreement on Dec. 19 last year yet, but the signing did not push through.
The agreement details the responsibilities of the signatories; the event may still proceed without it, Lastimoso said. (PNA)
