ILOILO City – An estimated P322-million worth of infrastructure projects in Western Visayas were damaged by the recent tropical depression “Agaton.”
Most of the damaged infrastructures were in the provinces of Aklan, Capiz and Negros Occidental, according to Engr. Oliver Zamora, chief of the Maintenance Division of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Region 6.
“Agaton” caused road slips along Aklan West Road in the towns of Nabas, Malay Buruanga in Aklan, and landslide in Nabas town. The total estimated restoration/rehabilitation cost is P53 million.
In Negros Occidental, “Agaton” caused the following:
* road depression along Bacolod-Murcia-DS Benedicto-San Carlos City Road (estimated repair cost: P1.050 million)
* damaged slope protection along Jct. DS Benedicto-Spur 16-Calatrava Road (estimated rehabilitation cost: P7.333 million)
* cracked pavement along Bacolod North Road (estimated restoration cost: P1.034 million)
Various sections along Tapaz-Jamindan-Altavas Road in Capiz were also damaged by road shoulder erosion and depression, as well as in various sections along Iloilo-Capiz Road (old route) and Sigma-Mambusao-Jamindan Road, which totaled to an estimated rehabilitation cost of P260 million.
“The restoration/rehabilitation costs for these damages were estimated by the concerned District Engineering Offices, and are subject for validation by the Central Office,” said Zamora.
The rehabilitation of these damaged infrastructures will be undertaken once the validation is done and budget is available, he said. (DPWH-6/PN)
