P33.1-M foreign-funded projects for Region 6

ILOILO City – A total of P33.1 million of Australian-funded projects will be implemented in select municipalities of three provinces in Western Visayas this year through the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Region 6.

The projects are funded by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) of the Australian government (formerly the Australian Aid).

The province of Iloilo gets the biggest chunk – P20.4 million for 15 sub-projects.

Capiz has P11,050,000 allocation for nine sub-projects.

Calatrava town in Negros Occidental has P1.6 million for the construction of two two-classroom buildings.

Assistant Regional Director Joel Galicia of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) said the sub-projects include a school building for Maasin town, three units of school buildings for Calinog; five day care centers for Lambunao, two school buildings and one day care center for Barotac Viejo, and three school buildings for Bingawan.

Bingawan and Barotac Viejo are new DFAT areas.

In 2013, DFAT allocated a total of P91.6 million covering 16 towns across Western Visayas for 74 sub-projects./PN
