BACOLOD City – The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has allotted P36 million for the construction of an evacuation center here, Rep. Greg Gasataya disclosed on Friday.

Gasataya told the press in his office in Barangay Villamonte that he asked the city government, through Mayor Evelio Leonardia, to provide 3,000-square meter site for the multistory evacuation center.

According to the congressman, the DPWH aims to complete the project and get it ready for use within the year.

The Public Works department and the local government will decide on the location.

Gasataya said the building will be equipped with “facilities for disaster preparedness.”

“[It] can also be used as venue for trainings if there are no calamities,” he said.

In another development, the DPWH may assist the city government in carrying out the anti-jaywalking ordinance.

The agency vowed to put all pedestrian lanes and other pavement markings on and along national roads, Gasataya said./PN
