BACOLOD City – An evacuation center will soon rise in Abada-Escay, Barangay Vista Alegre.

Some P36 million has been allotted for the construction of the facility on a 3,000 square meter lot, according to Cong. Greg Gasataya.

Gasataya clarified that the center is not a “regional evacuation center,” as reported by a radio station. It does not have a special name and will primarily cater to Bacolod residents, the congressman said.

But Gasataya also said the center will be open to evacuees from other areas if necessary.

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) central office will shoulder the project. Funding will come from the 2017 budget, he said.

On June 21 the Sangguniang Panlungsod approved a resolution endorsing the proposed evacuation center.

The DPWH will publish an invitation to bid once it receives the city council resolution, said Gasataya.

On June 7 DPWH Bacolod City Engineering District head Abraham Villareal wrote Gasataya saying Mayor Evelio Leonardia has endorsed a lot in Abada-Escay as the location of the evacuation center.

The DPWH Negros Island Region office advised that a public bidding be held for the soil exploration, Villareal told Gasataya./PN
