ILOILO City – Civil Defense Administrator Ricardo Jalad led the turning over ceremony of the P37 million regional evacuation center (REC) to the local government in Kalibo, Aklan.
The evacuation center located in Barangay Tigayon, Kalibo can accommodate around 130 individuals.
“This center is among the 11 RECs being established in Western Visayas,” said Jalad.
The first two centers were established Bago City and San Carlos City in Negros Occidental.
“The initiatives of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council are focused on spreading resilience,” Jalad said.
The center’s construction was implemented by the Department of Public Works and Highways on Oct. 2017 and was completed on Jan. this year.
Another center will open in San Jose, Antique this month. (With PNA/PN)
