ILOILO City – A P38-million command center for this city’s traffic and disaster risk reduction and management will soon to rise within the Gaisano Iloilo City Center property on Sen. Benigno Aquino Jr. Avenue in Mandurriao district.

The city government represented by Mayor Jerry Treñas and Heva Development and Management Corp. represented by Carlos Legara (Gaisano Capital Group Western Visayas vice president) recently signed a Deed of Usufructuary Rights.

The city government will be utilizing 375 square meters of land in the Gaisano Iloilo City Center for the command center.

Treñas said the usufruct agreement is for 25 years and renewable.

Once the agreement is confirmed by the Sangguniang Panlungsod, construction of a five-storey command center (to be called “Iloilo City Action and Response Center”) may commence.

“Ginapangitaan na naton pundo,” the city mayor said.

A “big help” was how Treñas described the Gaisano family’s decision to make available a portion of its property for the command center.

“This is very significant. Kita tanan nakabalo nga amat-amat saylo ang syudad dira nga area. This is the next nerve center of the city thus it is very necessary nga ara gid sa sentro ta ang command center,” said Treñas.

The command center will have the necessary equipment such as fire trucks, police cars and ambulances.

Among the personnel that will man it are policemen, firefighters and medical emergency responders.

The signing of the usufruct agreement was witnessed by Vice Mayor Jeffrey Ganzon, city councilors and department heads.

Treñas said satellite centers may also be erected in the districts of Molo, Arevalo and La Paz district./PN
