KALIBO, Aklan – Five towns in Aklan are benefiting from projects under the World Bank-funded Philippine Rural Development Project of the Department of Agriculture (DA).
The infrastructure and enterprise development projects, amounting to P385.972 million, are either being implemented or in the pipeline.
The beneficiary towns are Altavas, Batan, Libacao, Madalag, and Banga.
A 12.74-kilometer Libacao-Banga farm-to-market road with bridges is being rehabilitated and improved starting April.
Worth P148,543,556, the project is 13.31-percent complete as of Aug. 31.
World Bank loan proceeds bankrolled 80 percent of the project cost, while the DA and the provincial government shouldered the remaining 20 percent.
In the pipeline is the rehabilitation and improvement of a 4.2-kilometer Lalab-Bay-ang-Magpag-ong farm-to-market roads in Batan worth P68,156,105.
World Bank will shell out P54,524,884, while the DA and the participating local government will contribute P6,815,610 each.
A No Objection Letter (NOL) 1 has yet to be issued for the project. It is now under review by the Project Support Office/National Project Coordination Office.
The concreting of a 9-kilometer Pampango-Rosal-Luctuga-Manika farm-to-market-roads with four bridges in Libacao amounts to P165,388,000.
World Bank allotted P132,310,400, while the DA and Libacao will provide P16,538,800 each.
A coconut mini oil mill used in producing small-scale coco-based crude oil and copra cakes in Altavas will be rehabilitated. It costs P3,884,807.
World Bank provided P3,107,845 for the project. The rest — P776,960 — will be shouldered by the DA and the local government.
The project was issued an NOL 1, allowing the beneficiary town to proceed with the pre-procurement conference. (Aklan Forum Journal/PN)
